Bu çalışma transhümanist idealin kurguladığı “aşılması gereken beden” düşüncesini sorgulamaya açmaktadır. Bu sorgulama transhümanist gelecek tahayyülünün önemli bir temsil alanı olan sinema üzerinden gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu bağlamda çalışma transhümanizm literatürüne bir görsel kültür analizi üzerinden özgün katkı sağlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında seçilen Ghost in the Shell, Transcendence ve The Substance filmleri söylem analizi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular üç filmde de biyolojik insan bedeninin yetersiz ve aşılması gereken bir yapı olarak temsil edildiğini göstermektedir. Ancak filmlerdeki temsiller tek yönlü değildir ve transhümanist idealin çelişkisini de ortaya koymaktadır. Transhümanist dönüşüm sadece bir ilerleme değil, aynı zamanda kimlik kaybı, iktidar yoğunlaşması ve bedensel çözülme gibi riskleri de beraberinde getirmektedir. Sonuç olarak çalışma sonunda transhümanist idealin sinemada hem bir arzu hem de kriz söylemi etrafında temsil edildiği görülmüştür.
This study questions the concept of the "body to be transcended" as constructed by the transhumanist ideal. This questioning is conducted through cinema, a significant representational space for the transhumanist vision of the future. In this context, the study aims to make an original contribution to the transhumanism literature through a visual culture analysis. The selected films Ghost in the Shell, Transcendence, and The Substance were analyzed using discourse analysis. The findings show that in all three films, the biological human body is represented as an inadequate structure to be transcended. However, the representations in the films are not one-sided and also reveal the contradiction of the transhumanist ideal. Transhumanist transformation is not only progress but also brings with it risks such as loss of identity, concentration of power, and bodily disintegration. In conclusion, the study shows that the transhumanist ideal is represented in cinema both around a discourse of desire and a discourse of crisis.
