Abstract

Abstract

In the Turkish sociological tradition, our sociologists look at the question "How will we modernize" from different perspectives. While Prince Sabahattin advocates that the modernization process should be transposed from Western societies, Ahmet Şuayb and Ziya Gökalp are on the positivist and nationalist-conservative front. Contrary to Niyazi Berkes, who advocates modernization with a Western-oriented approach, Şerif Mardin exhibits a center-periphery approach and a liberal point of view. Baykan Sezer's stance on this issue is clear. The method he uses while describing Turkey's sociological modernization is East-West conflict. Conflict model He is close to George Simmel. In his approach, modernization never means building a society in accordance with the Western model. Because the West makes the understanding of domination and exploitation under the name of modernity. The West sees especially the undeveloped and developing countries of the East as the most suitable ground for Western intellectual diffusion and legitimizes this situation with their actions and discourses. This study was made in memory of Baykan Sezer to determine his attitude towards modernization.
