Baykan Sezer, Türk düşünce tarihinde önemli bir yeri olan sosyoloğumuzdur. Sezer sosyolojisi günümüz dünya sorunları önünde küresel çapta etkili olabilecek özellikler göstermektedir. Mehmet Genç, Baykan Sezer’in saygı duyduğu ve büyük önem verdiği bir bilim adamıydı. Mehmet Genç’in Osmanlı iktisat sistemiyle ilgili ortaya koyduğu veriler ve açıklamaları Baykan Sezer sosyolojisi için büyük önem taşımaktadır. Mehmet Genç’in söyledikleri Osmanlı sisteminin bilinen kalıplara uymadığını ve Batı’da geliştirilen kuramlarla açıklanamayacağını açık şekilde ortaya koymaktadır. Mehmet Genç’in ortaya koyduğu bu tablo Baykan Sezer teorisini başka açıdan da destekler niteliktedir. Baykan Sezer bir toplumun örgütlenme biçimini, yapısını, kimlik ve karakterini belirleyen en önemli unsurlardan birinin; o toplumun ekonomisinin dayandığı temel iktisadi faaliyet olduğunu söyler. Baykan Sezer Yakın Doğu asker devlet örgütlenmelerinin son ve mükemmel örneği olarak Osmanlı’yı işaret etmektedir. Mehmet Genç’in “Osmanlı İktisadî Dünya Görüşünün İlkeleri” başlıklı makalesi, Baykan Sezer’in bu tezini desteleyecek çok önemli argümanlar taşıması bakımından önemlidir.
The sociology of Sezer demonstrates characteristics that can be effective on a global scale in addressing contemporary world issues. Mehmet Genç was a scholar for whom Baykan Sezer had great respect and to whom he attributed considerable importance. The data and explanations presented by Mehmet Genç regarding the Ottoman economic system are of great significance for the sociology of Baykan Sezer. Genç's insights clearly indicate that the Ottoman system did not conform to known patterns and cannot be explained by theories developed in the West. The framework outlined by Genç also supports Baykan Sezer's theory from another perspective. According to Sezer, one of the most crucial elements that determine a society’s organization, structure, identity, and character is the fundamental economic activity upon which its economy is based. Baykan Sezer identifies the Ottoman Empire as the last and perfect example of Near Eastern military state organizations. Mehmet Genç's article titled “The Principles of the Ottoman Economic Worldview” is of significance in that it provides substantial arguments supporting Sezer's thesis.
