Sosyoloji bilimi toplumu anlamanın ve açıklamanın temel dayanaklarını sunma eğilimi üzerine kuruludur. Batı toplumlarının 19.yüzyılda geçirdikleri değişim ve dönüşümlerin sonucunda, ortaya çıkan çelişki ve karmaşaların nasıl aşılacağı düşüncesi ise sosyolojinin doğuşuna öncülük etmektedir. Türkiye’de sosyolojinin önemi çok erken bir dönemde fark edilmiş ve sorunlarımıza sosyoloji düzeyinde yaklaşılmıştır. Bu yönde sosyoloji kürsüsüne emeği geçmiş çok kıymetli isimler bulunmaktadır. Taşıdığı önem göz önünde bulundurulduğunda İstanbul Üniversitesi birçok ilim ve fikir insanı yetiştirme noktasında çok zengin bir geçmişe sahiptir. Zengin geçmişi içerisinde 2002 yılında aramızdan ayrılan Prof. Dr. Baykan Sezer ise bugün üzerinde hassasiyetle durulması gereken bir kimliğe sahiptir. Ölümünün 20.yıl dönümünde onu fikirleriyle anma isteğimizin nedeni böylelikle belirginleşmektedir. Baykan Sezer’in çalışmaları sadece Türkiye için değil genel olarak sosyolojinin temel konu ve sorunları açısından da yeni tavrı belirlemektedir. Bu çalışmada Baykan Sezer’in yöntem anlayışı çerçevesinde Doğu-Batı çatışması görüşünü ele alacağız.
he science of sociology is based on the tendency to present the basic foundations of understanding and explaining society. As a result of the changes and transformations that Western societies underwent in the 19th century, the idea of how to overcome the contradictions and complexities that emerged led to the birth of sociology. The importance of sociology in Turkey was recognized at a very early stage and our problems were approached at the level of sociology. In this direction, there are very valuable names who have contributed to the sociology chair. Considering its importance, Istanbul University has a very rich history in educating many people of science and ideas. Prof. Dr. Baykan Sezer, who passed away in 2002 in his rich history, has an identity that needs to be emphasized with sensitivity today. The reason why we want to commemorate him with his ideas on the 20th anniversary of his death is thus becoming clear. Baykan Sezer's work determines the new attitude not only for Turkey but also for the basic issues and problems of sociology in general. In this study, we will discuss Baykan Sezer's view of the East-West conflict within the framework of his understanding of method.
