Bu çalışmada, Kemal Tahir’in gündeminde önemli bir yer tutan modernleşme/Batılılaşma meselesi; tasnif, tahlil ve karşılaştırma potansiyeli taşıyan sosyolojik kavramlar yardımıyla incelenmektedir. Böylelikle sosyolojinin modernleşme konusundaki bazı kavramsal ikiliklerine Kemal Tahir'in nasıl yaklaştığını ortaya koyabilmek mümkün olabilmektedir. Batılılaşma/modernleşme incelemelerinde söz konusu kavramsal ikilik, özgüllük ve evrensellik ekseninde görülmektedir. Tarihsel değişimin yönü ve sonuçları incelenirken ise süreklilik ve kırılma ikiliğine dayalı ihtilaflar söz konusudur. Değişimin ana faktörü ve dinamiğini açıklamak konusunda ekonomi politik ve kültüralist paradigmalar ekseninde yoğunlaşan yaklaşımları görüyoruz. Toplumsal değişimde başlıca rol oynayan sosyal unsurları karşılaştırırken ise yapı ve fail eksenli ikilikler söz konusudur. Çalışmada ele alınan bu ikilikler, kavramsal ve tematik yönleriyle ortaya konulmakta, akabinde Kemal Tahir’in bu temalar hakkındaki düşünceleri değerlendirilmektedir.
In this essay the problem of modernization/westernization which constitutes great importance in Kemal Tahir’s thought is being discussed in terms of sociological concepts which bear the potential of classification, comparison and analysis. Thus it will also be possible to put forth Kemal Tahir’s approach regarding some sociological dichotomies on modernization process. The aforementioned conceptual dichotomy in westernization/modernization researches can be established in the basis of specificality and universatility. While examining the direction and results of historical change, there some conflicts, based on the duality of continuity and rupture, occur. It is possible to recognize some approaches on the issue of explaining the main factor and the dynamics of change which are concentrated in the axis of economy-political and culturalist paradigms. There, structure - agency based dichotomies occur in the course of comparing social elements playing part in the process of social change. As a consequence the aforementioned dichotomies with their respective conceptual and thematic aspects and then the thoughts of Kemal Tahir on these themes are being held in this paper.
