Bu çalışmada kültürel kamunun ve yaşadığı dönüşümün, modern cumhuriyete ve ulusal kimliğe etkisi ele alınmaktadır. Modern yurttaşlık ve cumhuriyet fikrinin, kültür kamusu içerisinde yer alan edebi kamuyla verimli bir ilişkisi vardır. Yurttaşlığın gelişiminin her şeyden önce bir kamusallığa ve kamusal alanın gelişiminin kültürel kamuya bağlı olduğunu, kültürel kamunun da en önemli sahasının edebi kamu olduğunu göstermeyi amaçlıyoruz. Zira edebi kamu, sadece kültürel alanda değil, sosyo-politik alanda da kurucu bir değer taşır. Bu değeri üreten ve dönüştüren en önemli sosyal gruplardan biri ise genel okurdur. Edebi kamunun adeta kilit taşı denilebilecek kategorisi olan genel okur, yurttaşlığın hem hamili hem de garantörü olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Bu yüzden edebi kamunun Türkiye'nin kültürel ve siyasal modernleşmesindeki izini takip etmek son derece önemlidir. Edebi kamu içerisinde genel okurun rolü, modern cumhuriyetin yurttaş tipolojisini resmetmek için önemli bir göstergesel değer taşır. Türkiye'nin kültür kamusunun içinde son derece önemli bir sosyal rol oynayan genel okur kategorisi, cumhuriyetin gerektirdiği gelişkin yurttaşlığı tesis etmekteki önemli işlevi ve bu işlevi yerine getirmekte karşı karşıya kaldığı kısıtlar değerlendirilmektedir.
This study deals with the impact of the cultural public and its transformation on the modern republic and national identity. The idea of modern citizenship and the republic has a productive relationship with the literary public, which takes place within the cultural public. We aim to show that the development of citizenship depends first and foremost on a public sphere and that the development of the public sphere depends on the cultural public, and that the most important field of the cultural public is the literary public. This is because the literary public carries a constitutive value not only in the cultural sphere but also in the socio-political sphere. One of the most important social groups that produces and transforms this value is the general reader. The general reader, a category that can be called the keystone of the literary public, is considered both the bearer and the guarantor of citizenship. Therefore, it is extremely important to follow the trace of the literary public in Turkey’s cultural and political modernization. The role of the general reader within the literary public has an important representational value in portraying the citizen typology of the modern republic. The category of the general reader, which plays an extremely important social role in Turkey’s cultural public, is evaluated in terms of its important function in establishing the developed citizenship required by the republic and the limits it faces in fulfilling this function.
