Bu yazının amacı mesafe kültürünün sosyolojik kuramdaki yerini açıklamaktır. Modern toplumda bireyler arası ilişkilerde samimiyetin yerini mesafeye bırakması bireyin mesafe kültürü oluşturarak yalnızlaşmasına sebep olur. Toplumsal değişimle bireysel bir tercih haline gelen bu yalnızlık, bireyi modern toplumun risklerinden de korur. Yalnızlığa önce maruz kalan sonra da onu alışkanlık haline getiren birey için mesafe kültürünün sürdürülmesi elzemdir. Mesafe kültürü aynı zamanda modern toplumda bireyin özgürlüğünün korumasını sağlar. Mesafe kültürü, ancak sınırları belli olan özgürlük alanı ile korunabilir. Bireyin özgürlüğü için gerekli olan öz disiplin ise medenileşme ve adabı muaşeret kurallarıyla var olur. Yazının son bölümünde müşterek bir mesafe kültürünün oluşması ve korunması için gerekli olan medenileşme tarihine ve toplumun disipline edilmesine değinilmiştir. Son olarak mesafe kültürünün gündelik hayattaki uygulanış şekli medeni kayıtsızlık kavramıyla örneklendirilmiştir.
The aim of this article is the explanation of the social distance culture in sociology. In modern society, the replacement of intimacy with distance has caused the individuals to become lonely by creating a social distance culture. Loneliness, which has become an individual choice with social change, protects the individual from the risks of modern society. Thus social distance culture becomes indispensable for the individual who is exposed to loneliness until this loneliness becomes a habit. Social distance culture ensures the protection of the individual's freedom in modern society. Social distance culture can only be protected if the limits of freedom is certain. The neccessity that is needed for individual’s freedom can only be established with civilization and shared manners. As conclusion, at the end of the article it is mentioned that in order to establish and protect a common social distance culture, the concept of civilization history and the process of self diciplinized society have to be explained. At last the everyday practice of social distance culture is exemplified with the concept of civil inattention.
